Discoveries And Inventions
The Laws of Motion
The Laws of Motion were one of the most important discoveries made by Newton. The first law of motion states that an object in motion will stay in motion, and an object at rest will stay at rest, unless acted upon by an outside force. The second law of motion states that force equals mass multiplied by acceleration. The third law of motion states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Optics
Newton made many important discoveries in optics. Newton discovered that white was made up of all the colors of visible light. He also discovered that color arose from the reflection, transmission, and absorption of light. Most importantly, he created the reflecting telescope, which uses a mirror to reflect light from far away. Pet Doors
Newton also surprisingly invented the pet door. Newton was an animal lover. He loved dogs and cats. But, whenever the cats needed to go outside, they would scratch at his lab door, disturbing his work. Newton invented the pet door to let his cats come in and go out without disturbing him. |
Law of Universal Gravitation
The law of universal gravitation was another important discovery made by Newton. It is legend that he discovered gravity at an apple orchard, when an apple from an apple tree he was sitting under fell on his head. |
